About Vintage Lucy

My name is Lynn Love Heins. I started buying vintage clothing in high school long before vintage was sought after. It was fun! I loved how zany and unique the fashions were! Throughout my varied career, I kept collecting as this treasure hunt became a delightful obsession.

I did a stint as a display artist/window dresser after high school and then worked as a fashion coordinator for Burdines in Miami. For 15 years I worked as a silver/goldsmith, producing my own line of jewelry and selling in fine galleries and museum shops in fifteen states, including The Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, and The Museum Of Contemporary Art in Chicago......then spent a long 16 years as staff artist and manager of a turn-of-the-century building in the greater Boston area filled with thirty plus stores and restaurants and lots of unusual folks (a steady paycheck with health insurance helps when you have children).

As time went on, I have become more and more involved in the vintage scene, selling my collection in multi-dealer antique shops and then on eBay where I continue to maintain my Vintage Lucy Ebay store. Sweet Vintage Lucy.com is my newest venture and will grow with new items added weekly! Today, hunting down the latest vintage finds and offering them to you here at VintageLucy.com is a full-time job -- and a dream job, at that! I also offer artistic retro creations, accessories and embellishments hand made by Vintage Lucy, most often using true vintage elements and patterns inspired by vintage beauties. See the satin roses and halter tops. I look forward to expanding this aspect in VintageLucy.com. I plan on launching VintageVavoom.com a more provocative sexy site to compliment VintageLucy.com in the future.

Here you'll find an inspired wide variety of true vintage, my greatest love, and a smaller collection of fine vintage-style retro fashions, with a specialization in dressy women's clothing from the 1950s and 1960s. We hope that you'll enjoy browsing the collection, and that you'll visit us again soon. I'm always finding new things that I know you'll love.

Vintage Fashion Tips

Playing with style and Accessories

There are as many ways to wear vintage as there are vintage wearers, so let yourself go and have fun! You can wear vintage the high fashion haute couture way, or personalize with an avant-garde twist -- like wearing vintage heels with thin white or colored ankle socks, or work boots and grandma/nun shoes with a vintage dress. The important thing is to have fun creating your own look! And whether you want to look like Audrey Hepburn, Lucy or Marilyn, Patsy Kline or Betty Page, I can give you ideas for just the right accessories to go with your outfit. Drop me a line if you want any help. I do enjoy working with my customers!

Crinolines

If you want to purchase a crinoline to go with your new dress or skirt, make sure it's 1950's-style. These are longer than most crinolines, and the first tier fits flat to the belly and hips. Square dance crinolines are too short and too fluffy, and don't look right under a '50's-style skirt. You want a crinoline that is not too puffy and long enough allowing the skirt to flow out in an open A-line and not bubble into a round bunch. Some crinolines can be cut to the length you desire without need of hemming.

Shoes

Vintage outfits can look most glamorous with shoes of a matching color. White, dyeable shoes of all sizes and styles can be found easily on the net. For the true vintage look, mix and match your favorite vintage shoe and accessory finds.

Waist accents

A cummerbund can add a great '50s look to many dresses and ensembles. They are available in many sizes and colors and may be purchased online or at shops that sell and rent tuxedos then can be easily modified. Sashes are another great '50's accessory, and are widely available at clothing stores. You can make one yourself, too -- drop by your local fabric store for simple patterns and fabric, or use wide ribbon to make a quick and gorgeous sash.

Sizes and Fit

Remember that vintage sizes vary from those of today. Before you buy, make sure you take your measurements -- and feel free to ask questions if you're not sure about fit.

Aging Material

The materials in these treasured things from the past -- even things that are otherwise in perfect condition -- may be time stressed, may need special care, and may not last as long as retro (newly produced) items. This is one more reason why vintage pieces are so very loved!

Alterations

Those who love wearing vintage clothing will find that having a favorite seamstress or tailor at hand for alterations helps a great deal. Buy a bit larger for your size, as you can always take in a garment much more easily than you can let it out.
